Because of how much I hated Oliver Twist. And then you said the human combustion thing, and now I just don't know! Darn it, my life was so much simpler before I knew about this spontaneous human combustion business!Jennyhttp://jennysbooks.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4120610619207414251.post-47863387690154106762009-06-25T21:33:35.268+10:002009-06-25T21:33:35.268+10:00I picked up Bleak House after watching the BBC TV ...I picked up Bleak House after watching the BBC TV miniseries. The performances of Anna Maxwell Martin (Esther), Gillian Anderson (Lady Dedlock), and Denis Lawson (Jarndyce)plus others are just powerful and affective. I agree with your rating too... it has become one of my all time faves. The miniseries (DVD's) can be the gateway to the book. Thanks for the review.rippleeffectshttp://rippleeffects.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4120610619207414251.post-38724190643873067962009-06-27T00:28:35.244+10:002009-06-27T00:28:35.244+10:00Lezlie: Oh no! I had always heard he was verbose, but nobody told me how funny he could be. The size of Bleak House is a bit daunting, even for a classic lit lover like myself.hopeinbrazilhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05842290165385823751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4120610619207414251.post-59344950626004784112009-07-01T01:08:05.214+10:002009-07-01T01:08:05.214+10:00"Bleak House" is my favorite Dickens nov..."Bleak House" is my favorite Dickens novel so far, but "A Tale of Two Cities", "Great Expectations" and "A Christmas Carol" are great also. You should have seen the looks on my family members' faces when I described the scene of the spontaneous combustion!
