One of my favourite things about book blogging is the existence of reading challenges. I’ve considered several ideas for running my own, but have only recently hit on one that no-one else has thought of. So I am striking while the idea is still unclaimed and celebrating books that share names with their characters with
Here’s how it works:
The challenge will run from 1 March to 31 May, 2008.
During that time your mission should you choose to accept it is to read 4 books whose titles are the name of one or more of the characters (e.g. Evelina, Oscar and Lucinda); or a description of one or more of the characters (e.g. The Merchant of Venice, Sylvia’s Lovers).
Non-fiction books and overlaps with other challenges are welcome, as are books named after four-legged characters.
Once you’ve chosen your books, choose a colour scheme....
... post your list, and add a link to it with Mr. Linky below. I can’t wait to see how this works out!

Wanted to let you know I posted your challenge to my novel challenges blog to give you some free advertising :) Good luck with your first hosted challenge!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun challenge -- thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeletecool idea!!!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like fun. I've signed up but I don't have a blog. Hope that's ok.
ReplyDeleteKaren
You don't need a blog to participate; the only thing that matters is the reading!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a wonderful challege, except I don't think, considering the rate at which I read these days, that I would ever be able to finish!
ReplyDeleteI did tag you on a meme that's pretty quick, if you would like to take part!
This one does sound like fun! Give me a "minute" to round up four titles, and I'll be back to link to the post!
ReplyDeleteGreat challenge!! Some of my choices overlap other challenges, but this is also giving me the opportunity to get around to reading a couple of other books on my TBR lists.
ReplyDeleteGood luck hosting your first challenge! If I didn't always have a stack of review books by my side, I'd probably enjoy challenges.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't resist signing up. It gives me good reason to push some books I am really looking forward to the top of the TBR-mountain. My post is up and my name has been added to Mr Linky.
ReplyDeleteMay I use my Trixie Belden books I intend to re-read for that challenge as well as Les Miserables? If so, sign me up, please and thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for a challenge. Thanks very much for hosting!
ReplyDeleteCount me in. :)
ReplyDeleteCouldn't stay away, so have created my list and signed up, here's hoping I can finish!
ReplyDeleteI just joined. What a creative challenge. (thanks for allowing overlaps!)

Sounds really fun, especially the description-of-person one (Lady Chatterley's Lover springs to mind) - I would join if it weren't for my decision a while ago to stay out of reading challenges if I knew I wouldn't have time... so I'll think about which ones I *would* do, if I were going to...
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting up this challenge. It is a great idea. I'm joining.
ReplyDeleteI hope this is OK but I'm doing this challenge with all overlaps. I'm taxing myself right now with challenges, but thought it would be fun to hunt for books that would fit into more than one challenge. I'm assuming that would be fine. ;)
ReplyDeletethanks for this challenge. I would like to join. I have a question about one of my books though. Would Portrait of a Lady count or is that not what you are looking for in descriptions? I have the other three, just curious about that one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing this challenge!!
