Booking Through Thursday: The Best?

It’s a week or two later than you’d expect, and it may be almost a trite question, but … what were your favorite books from 2008?
After much deliberation I’ve narrowed the list to a Top Ten ... plus a Top Four Non-Fiction, just so I can squeeze in a few more.

Fiction

Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen (re-read)
Bliss - Judy Cuevas
Cranford - Elizabeth Gaskell
Cocaine Blues - Kerry Greenwood
Imperium - Robert Harris
Three Men in a Boat - Jerome K. Jerome
The Sunne in Splendour - Sharon Penman
Fingersmith - Sarah Waters
To Say Nothing of the Dog - Connie Willis
The Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Non-Fiction

Digging Up the Dead - Druin Burch
Marley & Me - John Grogan
The Man Who Broke Napoleon's Codes - Mark Urban
A. D. 500 - Simon Young

  1. There were so many books which I enjoyed last year, but I think the mysteries, fantasies and science fiction were my favorite categories.

I have read almost everything Connie Willis has written and loved To Say Nothing of the Dog. The Doomsday Book is my favorite by her though.

I haven't been able to find Bliss so I envy you finding it and reading it.

  2. Wow! We have really similar tastes. I read Jerome & Willis this year and liked them both (Willis is on my lsit today). I read Zafon a while back and tried to make everyone I know read it! I love Harris. And, well, Austen is a given!

    Here's to a great 2009 in books.

  3. I've heard good reviews about Fingersmith and I'm definitely looking forward to reading it soon.

  4. I didn't read any of the books on your list, but know most of the authors. I read a Robert Harris thriller a while back, Pompeii, which was an okay read. Have heard a lot about Imperium as well. Wonder if I should put it on my TBR :)
