Booking Through Thursday: First

How about First Editions? Are they something special? Or “just another book” to you?

I really don’t care about what print run a book came from; I just care about whether it’s worth reading. I wouldn’t have a clue what number edition any of my books are; it’s not something I’ve ever thought to check. And with books produced in such numbers these days I don’t regard a first edition as anything special.

Now, if it was an old book, I might think differently ... but I wouldn’t spend a fortune on it just because it was first.

  1. I agree with you (unless it's my books, ha!) that the print run isn't important to me. It's the word that I find myself addicted to. I'm going to follow you becasue I want to come back and make a list. Library here I come!

  2. I couldn't agree more. Interesting question, don't you think? I personally am an avid reader, not a collector of books, although, I do own alot. Here's my answer for this week's Booking Through Thursday.

  3. Pamela: Oh yes, if it was my book it would be a different matter entirely!

Lori: I think I'm more of a book accumulator than a book collector. I own a lot but none of thm are particularly fancy.

  4. For books from my childhood, I like to get an ex-library edition of roughly the same vintage as the one that I first read. (I almost certainly read it from the library - we were a big library-using, non-book-buying, family.) This has the double advantage of special meaning and, often, a really cheap price. :)
